MIND-Omics: Neuropsychology and Multi-Omics to Advance the Early Detection of Cognitive Decline

The MIND-Omics project (Neuropsychological Assessment Integrated with Multi-Omics Indicators for Early Detection of Cognitive Decline), led by Margarita Torrente, researcher at TecnATox, has been awarded funding by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) under the 2025 call for Knowledge Generation Projects. The project will run for four years and involves researchers from several TecnATox research groups, reinforcing its multidisciplinary nature. The proposal primarily integrates neuropsychology, neurology, and omics-based approaches.
MIND-Omics aims to advance the early detection of vulnerability to cognitive decline, with a particular focus on individuals experiencing Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD), a stage in which cognitive changes may be perceived before measurable impairment can be objectively identified. To achieve this, the project will combine detailed neuropsychological assessment with the study of different components of the gut-brain axis using multi-omics approaches.
The study will integrate cognitive, clinical, biological, and lifestyle-related information, while also considering factors such as sex, Mediterranean lifestyle, sleep, and stress. The objective is to identify vulnerability and low-risk profiles that will improve our understanding of the earliest stages of cognitive decline and, in the future, contribute to the development of more personalized detection and prevention strategies.
