Grant of €150,000 to bring the BREASTCARE platform to market against breast cancer
The BREASTCARE project, led by researcher Domènec Puig from the Department of Computer Engineering and Mathematics, has received a grant of €120,000 in the Product category awarded by the Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR) of the Generalitat, along with an additional €30,000 contributed by IrsiCaixa. The aim is to bring to market this artificial intelligence platform that improves the personalized diagnosis of breast cancer through medical imaging. The technology analyzes mammograms and ultrasounds to determine the degree of malignancy and classify the tumor into one of the four main subtypes, a key aspect for deciding the most appropriate treatment. In addition, it incorporates explainability tools, which strengthen medical staff's confidence, and enables monitoring of patients' progress in cases of relapse or metastasis.
